Collection: St. Dwynwen’s Day 25th January gift suggestions - the Welsh equivalent of St. Valentine’s Day
Obviously, any piece of jewellery is appreciated as a gift but here are just a few lovely suggestions to help you say ‘I Love You’ on St. Dwynwen’s Day.
St Dwynwen's Day, the Welsh equivalent of St. Valentine’s Day is celebrated on January 25th. It honours the Welsh patron saint of lovers with cards, gifts, and expressions of affection.
Dwynwen, a beautiful 5th-century princess, fell in love with a prince named Maelon, but her father arranged for her to marry someone else. Heartbroken, Dwynwen fled, and an angel, pitying her, gave her a potion to make her forget Maelon, turning him to ice. God granted Dwynwen three wishes: for Maelon to be thawed, for the hopes of true lovers to be met, and for her to never marry. Dwynwen dedicated her life to God, becoming a nun on Ynys Llanddwyn (Llanddwyn Island), where she is buried, and the ruins of her church still stand and can still be visited today.
